“Basskantine” (formerly “Ninos Del Sol”) is a reborn weekly Drum & Bass event in Mannheim, Germany, taking place every Thursday night in the Soho club. It was started by DJ Fileas a couple of years ago as a sequel to the weekly event series “Network” (held in ancient post-Millenium times on Saturdays by Tobi & Jonathan, back then well-known in the local scene) and is continued today by the baesse.de crew (who have consistently been pushing the intelligent and liquid sides of Drum & Bass with remarkable effort for many years).

As a matter of fact, the weekly evening in the Soho club is one of the few valuable constants the local Drum & Bass scene in Mannheim has been lucky to have in the past decade. It was one of the (maybe even THE) first serious attempts to counter the scene-dominating commercial low-quality UK-Jungle-Raves around the millenium.
Check the documentary “Jungle68” (and the inofficial sequel) for more information…

Now on the 15th of July 2010, world famous DJ Hektik makes his drölfth appearence in this well respected institution, ready for a proper shakedown together with his 500 3 loyal fans.

And a very special guest has announced that he will also appear behind the decks this evening, to play a very special Nu Skool set: DJ Mindforce from the legendary Metaflex crew.

Without any doubt, this musical event will be more important to the history of mankind than anything before or after (including the global “financial crisis” of 2011, the following years of mass starvation, the official takeover of world wide neofeudalism in 2017 and Georg Schramm’s pre-emptive resignation from coporate television in June 2010).

As always in history, quality is best witnessed live - rather than reported & missed. So be there or [insert any pun].

Spinor’s big tune “Moloch” eventually came out on vinyl in 2008. It sold 500 copies and made TILT008 the most successful release on Tilt-Recordings yet (read: ever). Now, in 2010, these two remixes are released digitally. Enjoy!

T-FREE078 is a joint venture between the still relatively unknown russian duo Osh and the quite well established russian artist Enei who already had a bunch of tunes released digitally and on CD plus 10 vinyl releases on labels like Blue Saphir, Cyanide, Fokuz, Hospital’s Med School, Icarus etc. Their collaboration tune “Bloop” nicely rolls out some dirty midrange riffs over a 2-step beat with a lovely classic techsteppy feel and a warm bassline.

T-FILE026 was a remix of a tune by Kriotek originally released as T-FILE011 in 2008. Now, T-FILE027 is a remix of “Tsar” by Kaiza featuring Isotop and Shots (released in 2009 as T-FREE059), done by Kriotek in 2010. Kriotek are a producer crew consisting of 3 artists from 2 countrys: Proton Kid and Nufojah from Romania and Blastphemik from UK. They experiment with different forms of broken beats in technoid and minimal Drum & Bass, Dubstep and other styles of dance music. Here they have given the tune “Tsar” a proper facelift and demonstrate, along the way, that Techno-DNB is still very much alive and evolving, regardless of internet debates and genre clichés. The remix updates the uncompromisingly percussive concept of the original with a much improved sound, an angry bassline and a massive, pumping beatloop. The result is a thick wall of bouncing rythm and driving energy; in other words: pure awesome. Watch out for Proton Kid’s solo productions and do not miss the Kriotek EP forthcoming on T3K!

…this week’s Friday in Mannheim:

Date:

Jay (Basstion, MA)

Budoka has recently released 4 new tunes digitally via Tilt-Recordings / T-Files, and gives out an older tune via T-FREE now: “Engine” is an unreleased party roller tool from early 2007 (new mixdown done in 2009). After downloading this tune here for free, go check out Budoka’s new “Echoes” EPs! (Echoes EP pt.2, Echoes EP pt.1)

The flyer for THIS event is done digitally and being printed:

For the second part of his “Echoes” EP project, Budoka has again put together two different tunes:

“Eye Sea Blue” is a lovely, technoid summer roller with a beautiful hookline and other melodic guitar parts all played by the musician Budoka himself. The tune is set in a warm summer night at the ocean and brings precisely this athmosphere into the clubs together with a proper rumbling bassline.

“Desolation” is a serious, modern Neurofunk bomb on a high quality level that combines the latest minimalist tech-nology with Budoka’s own style and brings a seldomly heard musical element into the soundscape: subtle, spacey “donks” (formerly known as stabs) appearing in a triplet arrangement, remotely similar to the bassline notes in “Echoes.” It goes without saying that the tune fulfills the sound admission requirements for the international top league with ease. Its precise, juicy beat, angry but carefully restrained and condensed midranges and its massive, although hardly accented bassline as an entity do indeed “rinse it out of proper!”
