Budoka was born in 1976 and lives near Darmstadt/Hassia/Germany. As a trained drummer
and guitarist he played in different Hardcore/Metal/Punk-Formations at the time from
1988-2002, but he has also collected practical knowledge by playing in different
Reggae- and Live Hip-Hop Bands. With the release of the first Prodigy-LP the interest
in jungle-music has been awaked and the first UK-breakbeat tapes were collected.
Together with his brother David (DJ Malice) he bought the first turntables in 1996
and not much time later the Phishmaol-Cru was founded around MC Santana, Tyrell aka
DJ Gargamel (Gyration), Rayman (Gyration), DJ Spawn and other artists.
Since 2000 Budoka is also activ as producer and releases some of his productions
on the german DnB-Label Tilt-Recordings. The style of his productions reaches from
dark bassline emphasized minimalistic rolling tunes to intelligently arranged and
jazzy, vocal dominated dancefloor tunes. His influences came from Hardcore/Metal/Punk,
from Hip-Hop, but also from Jazz and from other genres of music.
The most important influences in DnB came from artists like Ed Rush and Optical,
Stakka and Skynet and also from more jazzy artists like Big Bud and Seba.

Budoka wurde 1976 geboren und lebt im Umkreis von Darmstadt. Als gelernter Schlagzeuger
und Gitarrist spielte er von 1988-2002 in diversen Hardcore/Metall/Punk-Formationen,
sammelte aber auch weitere musikalische Erfahrungen in Reggae und Live-Hip-Hop Projekten.
Mit dem Erscheinen des ersten Prodigy-Albums wurde das Interesse an den Gebrochenen Beats
geweckt und die ersten UK-Tapes gesammelt. 1996 wurden dann die ersten Turntables mit
seinem Bruder David (Malice) angeschafft und es gründete sich wenig später die Darmstädter
Phishmaol-Cru um MC Santana, Tyrell a.k.a DJ Gargamel (Gyration), Rayman (Gyration), Spawn u.A..
Seit 2000 ist Budoka auch als Produzent aktiv und releast auf dem neuen deutschen Label
Tilt-Recordings einen Teil seiner Produktionen. Der Stil seiner Produktionen ist vielseitig.
Er reicht von dunkel funkelnden, Bassline-betonten minimalistischen Rollern über
intelligent-verspielte Liquids zu vocal-dominierten Dancefloor-Tunes.
Seine musikalischen Einflüsse liegen im Punk/Metal/Hardcore aber auch im Hip-Hop,
sowie im Jazz und anderen Musikrichtungen. Im Drum´n Bass zählt Budoka Ed Rush & Optical,
Stakka & Skynet aber auch Big Bud und Seba zu seinen wichtigsten Einflüssen.
Als aktiver Musiker finden immer wieder selbst eingespielte Sounds diverser
akkustischer und elektrischer Instrumente den Weg in seine Produktionen.
Zusammen mit Eli MC veröffentlicht Budoka unter dem Namen Oberton auf dem eigenen
Label Traumsoldaten-Records deutschsprachigen Hip-Hop mit DnB Einflüssen und deepen,
gesellschafts- und zeitkritischen Texten.
